Once again, the association of the Festival d’opéra de Québec with JM Canada gives young opera artists a chance to showcase their talents and offers you a refreshing reading of Donizetti’s irresistible work, La Fille du régiment, which features ordinary characters where joy, emotion and events are expressed in music that is sometimes military, sometimes lyrical, sometimes made of popular melodies. This is certainly an event not to be missed!
With this operatic adaptation of Andersen’s famous fairy tale, festival-goers of all ages will fall under the spell of this eulogy to difference. What we see as ugly and unpleasant, ugly and counterfeit, is sometimes just a way of describing something we don’t understand. When we learn to overcome our fear of difference and dare to take a fresh look at others, we discover all their beauty.
