Violetta Val\u00e9ry, a courtesan who loves freedom and is a lover of the Baron Douphol, is dazzled in luxury and pleasure. But the young Alfredo arrives, madly in love with her and eager to find out about her state of health which has become worrying. Seduced, Violetta leaves her dissolute life for the countryside, far from the hustle and bustle of Paris. But Alfredo\u2019s father\u2019s unexpected arrival put an end to this happiness: he manages to make Alfredo give up his love in order to avoid a scandal that would jeopardize the marriage of his daughter, Alfredo\u2019s younger sister. Torn apart, Violetta leaves Alfredo, letting him believe she is returning to Baron Douphol. Months go by. She has lost everything, now sick and ruined, all alone in her completely empty apartment.
