One-Act Opera

A work by Laurence Jobidon and Pascale St-Onge

L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi explores life in the magnificent yet harsh landscapes of northern Quebec. Léa, who is pregnant, tries to reach a safe haven as a storm approaches, guided by a mysterious stranger, Madeleine. The opera evokes the strength and solidarity of women in the face of unspeakable grief and tragedy.

“L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi is exactly what opera needs. It is bold, contemporary, poetic, political, feminist, theatrical, well-executed, and unafraid of traditionalists.”  – Montreal Theatre Hub

The project L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi was made possible by the support of the Canada Council for the Arts awarded to Opéra Magnolia.

Formerly known as Musique 3 Femmes, Opéra Magnolia is a contemporary opera company dedicated to expanding the art form by fostering new stories, amplifying diverse voices, and advancing gender-diverse leadership within the opera community. As part of the Mécénat Musica Prix 3 Femmes, the company has funded and supported the creation, development, and production of eleven original chamber operas by emerging Canadian women composers and librettists.

In 2025, Opéra Magnolia launched the Opera Creation Forum in partnership with Opéra de Montréal, an intensive and immersive program that brings together emerging composers and librettists to collaborate on the development of new operatic works.

The company is currently undertaking its first large-scale operatic commission: an adaptation of John Irving’s novel A Prayer for Owen Meany, with music and libretto by Luna Pearl Woolf, created in collaboration with Pacific Opera Victoria.
