Musique : Francis Poulenc
Sur un texte de Georges Bernanos
Blurring the lines between theater and opera, this production brings La Fontaine’s poetry to life through an animated, multisensory reading. The character of Maxime, whose name evokes the moral at the heart of the fable, guides the audience on this journey. It provides the narration while her colleagues lend their voices and gestures to the various characters, bringing them to life with brilliance.
Fables pour Rachel (Fables for Rachel)
The heart of the program beats to the rhythm of Jean-François Mailloux’s compositions. Created in 2021 as a tribute to his colleague and friend Rachel Martel, this cycle of plays is a tailor-made setting where classical poetry finds a new theatricality.
Le Corbeau et le Renard (The Crow and the Fox)
Le Paon se plaignant à Junon (The Peacock Complaining to Juno)
La Cigale et la Fourmi (The Cicada and the Ant)
De la poésie à la scène (From Poetry to the Stage)
The company then invites you to step behind the scenes of the creative process. The original fable, recited, meets its lyrical adaptation to become a true mini-opera.
La Chauve-souris et les deux belettes (The Bat and the Two Weasels): in two versions, from Charles Lecocq to Jean-François Mailloux
La Grenouille qui veut se faire aussi grosse que le bœuf (The Frog Who Wanted to Be as Big as an Ox)
A multisensory experience
Supported by minimalist sets, original costumes, and meticulous lighting, this production blends storytelling with performance. A unique form of expression that showcases the creative vitality of Productions Cont’opéra.
