Verdi’s music sublimates the tragic destinies of the protagonists, unaware of the blood ties that bind them.

Along with La traviata and Rigoletto, Il trovatore is one of Verdi’s operas whose success has not waned over the years. A pillar of the repertoire and one of the most performed in the world, it has only been presented once at the Opéra de Québec. For this new production, the Opéra de Québec is counting on the intelligence and creativity of director Jean-Sébastien Ouellette, who so finely revisited Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in 2022. Conductor Federico Tibone, also a pianist and vocal coach, is currently associate conductor of the Opéra de Marseille and the Orchestre philharmonique de Marseille.

To interpret his roles of great depth, the Opéra de Québec director is counting on performers who know how to handle both acting and voice, including lyrico-spinto soprano Irina Stopina, who has dual training as a singer and actress.
