A co-production of Jeunesses Musicales Canada and the Festival d’opéra de Québec

Opéra en trois actes

A medley of various operetta arias based on a script by Pascal Blanchet

Behind the scenes at the Monument National in Montreal, Lionel Daunais and Charles Goulet, the founding directors of Les Variétés Lyriques, are deep in discussion about their upcoming season. Should they present Offenbach’s good old classic operettas? Or would it be better to program more recent works by Romberg or Yvain? And how can they best showcase the two star singers, Olivette Thibault, the principal coloratura, and Caro Lamoureux, the leading lyric soprano, who both want roles worthy of their talents!?

From a playful chorus to a passionate serenade, from an unrestrained Charleston to a feverish waltz, a colorful cast of characters parades before us as we explore a rich repertoire spanning a century and crossing several countries! In this production blending historical figures and settings with a fictional story, Jeunesses Musicales Canada presents a sparkling evening of opera!

At Jeunesses Musicales Canada, the organization believes it can spark an interest in classical music among diverse audiences by helping young professional musicians develop their careers.

Through discovery, it is committed to presenting and producing concerts and musical activities designed to introduce and foster an understanding of classical music in various forms among young people aged 0 to 16.

It is committed to training young Canadian musicians (instrumentalists, singers, and composers) through concert tours, among other initiatives, prioritizing their development on the national stage while also pursuing occasional international projects.
