One-Act Opera

A work by Laurence Jobidon and Pascale St-Onge

L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi explores life in the magnificent yet harsh landscapes of northern Quebec. Léa, who is pregnant, tries to reach a safe haven as a storm approaches, guided by a mysterious stranger, Madeleine. The opera evokes the strength and solidarity of women in the face of unspeakable grief and tragedy.

“L’hiver attend beaucoup de moi is exactly what opera needs. It is bold, contemporary, poetic, political, feminist, theatrical, well-executed, and unafraid of traditionalists.”  – Montreal Theatre Hub

A co-production of Opéra Magnolia and the Festival d’opéra de Québec, in collaboration with Productions du 10 avril and the Paramirabo Ensemble.

Opéra Magnolia is a contemporary opera company committed to advancing the art of opera by creating space for new stories, new voices, and new creative horizons, while promoting gender-diverse leadership within the opera community. Until 2022, M3F administered the Prix 3 Femmes, offered by Mécénat Musica, a biennial $50,000 grant that supported the creation of 11 original chamber operas by emerging Canadian female composers and librettists, through initial financial support, mentorship, and development opportunities.

In 2025, Opéra Magnolia founded the Forum for Opera Creation in collaboration with Opéra de Montréal. Led by Luna Pearl Woolf, the FCO is an intensive and immersive program for emerging composers and librettists, focused on the collaborative development of new works. Through mentorship, workshops and public readings, participants gain hands-on experience and professional guidance to bring new operas to life.

Opéra Magnolia’s artistic partners include Opéra de Montréal, Pacific Opera Victoria, Le Vivier, FIFA, Salle Bourgie, SMCQ, Chants Libres, Paramirabo, Earth World Collaborative, Festival Classica, Festival d’Opéra de Québec, ufaFabrik Kulturzentrum (Berlin), Opera America, and the Association for Opera in Canada.
